NON-LEAGUE GAMES

OVERTIME - YES if agreed upon by BOTH coaches BEFORE the game begins; otherwise NO overtime.

---except for Wolverine Conference games, overtime is two 15-minute "sudden-victory" periods.

---except for Wolverine Conference games, if score is tied at the end of overtime, the final score remains a tie.

---except for Wolverine Conference games, NO "kicks from the penalty mark" (AKA "shootout") are allowed during regular season, non-tournament play.

REGULAR SEASON TOURNAMENT GAMES

---if a full-length game, two 15-minute "sudden-victory" overtimes are played to resolve ties before "penalty kicks" are taken.

---NO overtime in "multi-team tournament games" (30-minute halves):  go directly to "penalty kicks" to resolve a tie (NOTE:  a multi-team tournament game's half can not be longer than 30 minutes!)

 

MERCY RULE - YES if agreed upon by BOTH coaches BEFORE the game begins; otherwise NO mercy rule(ten goals ahead ten minutes into second half).

 

MAKE SURE THAT YOU ASK BOTH COACHES BEFORE THE GAME BEGINS!

 

NON-VARSITY GAMES

J.V. GAMES

MERCY RULE - If a conference game, follow the same conference policies for varsity games.  If a non-conference game, the mercy rule must be agreed upon by BOTH coaches before the game begins; otherwise NO.

OVERTIME - NO (except if specified for tournament play).

NO HALF OF A J.V. GAME MAY EXCEED 35 MINUTES.

ALL AREA CONFERENCES PLAY J.V. GAMES WITH A RUNNING CLOCK.

JUNIOR HIGH/MIDDLE SCHOOL GAMES

MERCY RULE - If a conference game, follow the same conference policies for varsity games.  If a non-conference game, the mercy rule must be agreed upon by BOTH coaches before the game begins; otherwise NO.

OVERTIME - NO (except if specified for tournament play).

NO HALF OF A JUNIOR HIGH GAME MAY EXCEED 30 MINUTES.

MHSAA JUNIOR HIGH GAMES SHOULD BE PLAYED IN 15-MINUTE QUARTERS.
